The Ever-changing World : Interdisciplinary and diverse practices of religion

Calling for Papers

The Department of Religious Studies at Fu Jen Catholic University is the oldest institution of higher education in religious studies in Taiwan. For its long-term efforts to cultivate religious research talents in Taiwan for more than 30 years, it has continued to integrate with international standards and connect and share with scholars in religion-related fields from all over the world. It has continuously won the implementation of the Ministry of Education's "Religious Landscape, Healing and Social Practice" benchmarking program in the humanities and social fields of colleges and universities since 2020.  It has been ranked 51st-100th in the world’s QS "Theology and Religious Studies" sub-discipline ranking for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021, gaining international recognition.
In terms of cultivating research talents, since the first "Graduate Thesis Conference" was held in 2002, the department has been committed to the sharing of their research results and mutual exchanges among graduate students to promote their academic development and growth. The 22nd "Graduate Thesis Conference " will be held in October 2024 with the theme “The Ever-changing World: Interdisciplinary and diverse practices of religion”. Graduate students from Taiwan and overseas are sincerely invited to participate in this event.
Religion is one of the forms of social life. In the era of change, uncertainty, complexity and blurred boundaries, the value and practice of religion play a pivotal role. The unique interdisciplinary nature of religion, which crosses and dialogues with the boundaries of multiple fields, reflects the diversity and inclusiveness of religions.
In the field of humanities, such as philosophy, literature, history, art, media, digital humanities, etc., religion is reflected in humanistic concerns such as personal values, moral norms, psychological emotions, outlook on life and sense of meaning. In the face of a rapidly changing world, religion also connects important issues in society, such as environmental protection, immigrant workers, care for the disadvantaged, gender issues, aging population and derived medical ethics issues. It demonstrates diverse aspects of care and practice, and provides key contribution.
As mentioned above, the theme of this year's conference is “The Ever-changing World: Interdisciplinary and diverse practices of religion”. The sub-themes may include, but are not limited to:
Religion and technology, religion and politics, religion and public policy, religion and world peace, religion and economics, religion and environment, religion and ethics, religion and education, religion and culture, religion and media, religion and minorities, religion and healing, religion and spirituality, religion and medical care, religion and elderly care, religion and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as any disciplinary dialogue and practice of religion.
Graduate students from Taiwan and overseas are sincerely invited to submit your thesis proposals. Please provide your paper title, abstract (300-500 words), keywords and a brief resume in your proposal.
